On January 29, 2007, Don and Janis Carter celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary and their 28th anniversary in business in Gore, Oklahoma.  Don grew up in Gore and Janis in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma.  After high school, Don joined the Army and served 3 years.  He then went to college at Connors, Oklahoma State, and graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma.  Janis graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University.  After they were married in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma, they moved to Oklahoma City.  Janis taught school for 3 years before their children were born.  Don worked as a marketing representative for Texaco, Inc.  After working for Texaco, Inc. for 10 1/2 years, they moved to Gore and bought the OTASCO store.  Janis's sister Dixie and her husband, Steve Conrad, also moved to Gore from Oklahoma City and went into business with Don and Janis.  At that time, the OTASCO store was located next to Box IGA, which is now Harp's Grocery.  In 1983, a new building was built at the intersection of Highways 10 and 100.  In 1988, they changed supplier and became GORE TRUE VALUE.  In 1984, another store was built in Warner, Oklahoma and Dixie and Steve Conrad operated this store.  The partnership was dissolved in 1987 and the Conrads continued to operate that store until they sold out in February 2004.
Don and Janis have 2 children, Jeff and Amanda.  Jeff and his wife, Angie, live in Webbers Falls on the family ranch.  They have 6 children; Stevie Ray, Violet, Vann, Cash, and Roman and Chandra.  Amanda and her husband, Tim Johnson, live in Russellville, Arkansas.  They have two children, Carter and Marley.  Tim is a Family Practice Physician.

Don retired in December 2003, but continues to help in the business.  Jeff started working in the store in 2003 and became a partner with Janis in January 2004.  He also takes care of the family cattle operation in Webbers Falls and carwash business in Gore and Warner.
